This Privacy Policy describes how the Wiggle app ("the app", "we") handles your information. Wiggle is built to work entirely on your own device for solo use, with one deliberate exception: its co-op mode, which briefly and anonymously syncs a shared grocery run between two phones.
1. Information We Collect
Wiggle does not require an account, sign-in, email address, or any personal detail to use. We do not knowingly collect any information that identifies you personally.
The one exception: when you tap Host Session or Join Session to use co-op mode, the app automatically creates an anonymous identity through Firebase Authentication's Anonymous Sign-In. This is a randomly generated ID with no name, email, password, or other personal detail attached to it — its only job is letting Firebase's security rules tell your device apart from an anonymous stranger's. Solo play never creates this identity or contacts any server at all.
2. What's Stored, and What's Synced
On your device, always. Your budget, your grocery entries (amount, category, and timestamp), your run history, your streak and win-rate stats, and your settings (tax rate, currency, keypad handedness, and similar preferences) are stored in a local database and local preferences store on your device. None of this leaves your device during solo play, and it is never sent to us or to anyone else.
During a co-op session, temporarily. Co-op lets two phones share one live grocery run. To make that possible, starting or joining a session creates a single document in Google's Cloud Firestore containing: the run's budget amount, currency, optional tax rate, each grocery entry as it's logged (amount and category — no notes, photos, or item names), and an anonymous per-device identifier used to tell entries apart. It does not contain your name, email, precise location, contacts, or any other personal information — there isn't any in the app to include.
That session document is automatically deleted roughly 24 hours after it's created, whether or not the session was ever finished. If a co-op session ends, disconnects, or expires, each phone simply continues (or resumes) as an ordinary solo run — nothing about solo play depends on the co-op session surviving.
3. Third-Party Services
Wiggle's co-op mode is built on Google's Firebase platform — specifically Firebase Authentication (Anonymous Sign-In) and Cloud Firestore, both part of Google Cloud. These are the only third-party services the app integrates with, and they are only ever reached while you're actively using co-op mode.
Wiggle does not include any advertising network, analytics SDK, or crash-reporting SDK of any kind. Solo play — which is how most of the app works — never contacts Firebase, or any other server, at all. 4. Permissions
Network access. Used only to sync a co-op session and to detect when your connection drops or comes back so the app can retry. Not used, and not needed, during solo play.
Keep screen awake. Wiggle can keep your screen on for the duration of a run so you're not re-unlocking your phone at every shelf. This setting only controls your screen's sleep timer — it doesn't read or transmit anything.
Wiggle does not request access to your camera, photo library, contacts, precise location, or microphone, because nothing the app does needs any of them.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
Local data (your budget, entries, run history, and settings) stays on your device until you remove it yourself — the History screen lets you delete individual runs — or until you uninstall the app or clear its data through your device's system settings, at which point it's gone. There is no account and no server-side copy of your solo runs for us to retain or for you to request deletion of, because none exists.
Co-op session data on Firebase is deleted automatically about 24 hours after creation regardless of what happens during the session. If you have a concern about a specific co-op session, contact us at the address below.
6. Children's Privacy
Wiggle is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children — in fact, as described above, the app does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated accordingly. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
